Oscar Defends the Realm Against the Mysterious Prowler
The night was quiet, too quiet. The humans had gone to bed, leaving me to my nightly patrol of the household. From my perch by the window, I kept watch over the yard—a dark, moonlit expanse I considered my domain.
And then, I saw it.
A shadow moved along the fence, sleek and deliberate. At first, I thought it was a trick of the light, but then two glowing eyes met mine. A cat, bold and uninvited, stalking through my territory.
The intruder paused, seemingly unbothered by my presence. This was unacceptable. I leaped down from the windowsill and pressed my nose against the glass, my tail flicking like an angry metronome. A low growl rumbled in my chest, a warning to the stranger.
But the visitor didn’t flinch. Instead, it hopped onto the patio and sat smugly, as if claiming the land for itself. The audacity!
I launched into action, scratching at the glass with my claws and yowling like a banshee. Surely the humans would come running, recognizing the seriousness of the situation. But no, they slept soundly, oblivious to the impending territorial crisis.
The other cat merely yawned, flicking its tail as if to say, “Is that all you’ve got?”
Enraged, I climbed the curtains for a better vantage point, accidentally dislodging a lamp on my way up. The crash echoed through the house, and finally, the humans stirred.
“Oscar! What are you doing?” one of them groaned, stumbling into the living room.
I pointed with my eyes, trying to explain the gravity of the situation. But by then, the prowler had vanished into the shadows, leaving only the faintest rustle of leaves in its wake.
The humans shook their heads and went back to bed, mumbling about “cat drama.” Drama? This was warfare!
The yard may have been spared an invasion tonight, but I’ll remain vigilant. The Midnight Duel is far from over.
